Good start into 2010

After my well deserved outtime back in Switzerland, I returned to Helsinki together with Fabienne. The visit of my girlfriend was an occasion to take some days off and go see some attractions outside Helsinki. I made already a trip to Joensuu, but for more, I just didn’t have the time in the last two months.

Our first trip was to Porvoo, a nice little city, east of the capital. Besides a beautiful old town with colorfull houses, we observed some ice fishers for the first time! It was funny to see, how all these people were sitting on the frozen river, their back to the wind, and all this at minus 15°!

The next day, Turku, the old capital, was on the program. After a two hours train ride, we arrived there in the deepest winter. No wonder that besides the church, the castle and the marine museum, we spent a lot of time in different cafés :-).

Silvester/new year’s we spent at some friend’s place, but had to leave just after midnight, because we had already planned a trip to Tallinn the first day of the new year.

Although we managed to end up at the wrong terminal first, we caught our ferry right on time. The travel took us exactly two hours across the baltic sea, which was already frozen for some parts! Estonia as well greeted us with some winter weather one usually only knows from skiing in the mountains. So we had to go from store to restaurant and so on here as well.

After all these trips, I’m now back at university, while Fabienne spends this week for sightseeing in Helsinki. And as I saw her program for these days here, I can say, that she will probably see more of the attractions here, then that I will manage to visit until I’ll leave.
