First stop: Ankara

Theoretically, this is already my second stop, but as I’m now working for Finnmap, my short trip to Helsinki could also be counted as a trip back “home”. Anyway, here I am, Ankara. Aim of this trip is, to train me in all the tasks, which I will be facing during my work in the future. For sure not a bad idea, as I will be mainly working in laser scanning projects – an area where I haven’t been able to gather that much knowledge. But already the first few days here showed, that the data is quite easy to process.

Even though I’m here mainly for training purposes, there is still some free time for me to discover the city of Ankara. With all the cars and people crowding every single street, this sometimes takes all my orienteering skills. But up to now, I always found my path back to a place I well recognized, like i.e. the Starbucks store at Atatürk Boulevard.

As this is my first trip to Turkey, I still feel adventurous and try all the different meals. Honestly, I’m really surprised that my stomach hasn’t started rebelling yet. Maybe this is thanks to the regularly disinfection with the local Efes beer. Thanks to some good finnish company, it’s also ensured, that I’m taking enough of this vaccination every evening. On the same time these nights provide also always good occasions to observe the behavior of the local community.
In a few days, my stay here is already over again. Then I will return to Switzerland for a short time, before continuing on to Nepal. Interesting times are coming!
