After having made lots of fun about the ice fishers back in Porvoo, I wanted to try it by myself. Just to see, what’s so special about sit on a frozen lake or river, back to the wind, waiting for a fish to bite.
Therefore I was happy, that Ilkka asekd me if I want to join him to a family trip, where I could try this finish activity.
Last sunday the moment was here. Quickly drink a final coffee for warming up, put on five (!) layers of clothes, and off we went. After a short drive we mounted our cross-country skis to get on the frozen sea. A friend of Ilkka was already waiting, and the kids had their fishing lines already in some holes.
After a 5-second introduction I gave it a try. And being a quick learner I also managed to catch two huuuuuge fishes ;-).
And? What’s now so fascinating on ice fishing? Even though you freeze your bottom of, the whole thing has also it’s nice sides. Work is far far away, you get some fresh air and you get a feeling of nature pure. Everything is just quite around you. Kneeling there in the cold, I could easily imagine, what brings people to come out there. And I guess if you are equipped with some proper clothing and some seriously lined rubber boots, ice fishing for sure is fun :-).
