Weekend in Joensuu

Christmas Seminar

Last friday, Ilkka and I were invited to the christmas seminar in Joensuu. Where usually the phd students present their latest work, we could show them, what we are working at the moment. Preparing the presentation also ment for us making a first review of the past few weeks, and check what we have achieved up to now. Even though we still have a lot of work ahead us, I’m personally happy with the progress we are making.

Skiing

As there was no program in the afternoon, we took the opportunity to go skiing. As it had snowed just a few days ago, we went to Kontiolahti where they already had some good prepared tracks (not like last time when we were in a hall). Dusk came very fast (~16.00), and it was very strange to ski in the dark, even though they had turned the lights on. But I think this is just something I’ll have to get used to up here.

Sauna

After a quick shower and a short sauna at our hosts place, we continued to the social part of the christmas seminar, which took place at a sauna cottage just next to the lake. Of course, there was again some more sauna on the program, as well as some fun games. All in all, this was a very nice weekend and I really hope to have more such events in the future…
